Dear sbstidman,
WordPress has been making a lot of changes and updates lately. It will take everyone a while to become accustom to the new way of doing things.
Meanwhile, from what I am seeing you can access the classic editor directly by adding “/wp-admin/post-new.php to the end of your site address”.
WordPress is looking for feedback on the changes; (so I have seen on this forum). If you have specific feedback regarding the editor, please post them here:https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/editor-feedback?replies=271 -
The new Beep Beep Boop editor does not have the word count feature yet but it still exists if you use the classic editor. You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and for viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/
On the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts > Add New
