My Word Press Site
-
According to HotsGator, I have owned the domain name Sharingonemind.com for many years and keep paying for it. This is/was my WordPress site. I bought a new laptop at the beginning of the year and have not been able to get into the dashboard to work with my site. I had a lot of trouble logging into WordPress. WP says I do not have a site. Yet if I log into Sharingonemind.com some site pops up but it is not mine. How do I resolve this issue.

You’ll need to speak to Hostgator about this, especially if you own the domain, but no site you recognize is loading there.
We don’t have any history of that site in our system, so you were most likely using the self-hosted WordPress.org software instead of us.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Thanks for the reply macmanx. I started with HostGator this morning and they have all my domain info but have no record of my using them as a host for the site. They mentioned WordPress and I remembered that was my host. However I was ignorant of the fact there were two, a .org and a .com. I appreciate your taking the time to teach me something. Someone else had set all of this up for me years ago; I should have been paying attention.

Yeah that’s the trouble there, you could be hosted with WordPress.com, or you could be using the WordPress.org software on any other hosting provider.
The only thing I can say for sure is that
Sharingonemind.comwas never hosted with WordPress.com, so it would have been using the WordPress.org software under any other hosting provider.
