My WordPress site has disappeared

  • Unknown's avatar

I have tried to log into my WordPress site and it’s telling me I don’t have one and would I like to create one. This is very worrying as it’s my business website. Can anyone help?

    Hello,

There are no sites listed in the account you are currently logged in to. Can you send me a link to the site you are having trouble with?

Just let me know and I’ll take a look.

    Hi Janet,

Thanks, the email address you mentioned does not match the one we have on file for the owner of the-wedding-dresser.co.uk.

I’ve sent an email to the address we have and will follow up with you there about the next steps. For security reasons, I can’t share that information with you so please check all of your accounts including the spam folder.

Please let me know if you don’t receive it.

    Hi Gemma

I have replied to the email sent asking me if I have a problem with my site, I hope you have received it. I also have another problem with my site. I have replied to a number of people who have written to me asking for more information, but I have just found out that no-one is receiving my replies. This is also a major problem as I have lost quite a bit of work.

    Regards

    Janet

    Hi Janet,

Yes, your reply came through and I’ve just replied :) Let’s look at recovering the other account and then I’ll be happy to look at the other issue you’ve mentioned.

That would be great, thanks Gemma

    Hi Gemma,

I have been through all the steps you sent, over and my site is now back up and working – Phew! Thank you for your help.

Is it possible to look at why people are not receiving replies to queries?

    Kind regards

    Janet

    Hi Janet,

That’s great, I’m glad you’ve got access to your site again!

I have replied to a number of people who have written to me asking for more information

Just to confirm — are you referring to replies you have sent from the email address on your Contact Us page?

    Hi Gemma,

Thanks for your reply. No, I think people are making enquiries via the “About us” page and the queries are turning up in ‘comments’ which isn’t terribly helpful as I don’t get a notification unless I deliberately log in. How do I get around this?

    Kind regards

    Janet

It might be a good idea to have a proper contact form on your “Contact us” page and perhaps also on your “Home/About us” page too rather than just a comments area at the bottom. Edit the pages in question and click on the + in a circle/add content button to get to the contact form field.

  • Hi there,

I think people are making enquiries via the “About us” page and the queries are turning up in ‘comments’ which isn’t terribly helpful as I don’t get a notification unless I deliberately log in

You can enable email notifications for comments at My Site ->Settings ->Discussion. That way you will get notifications even if you’re logged out, and you should be able to also reply to those comments via email.

But I also agree with @themagicrobot that it might be better to add a dedicated contact form to your contact page to give people and easy way to contact you privately without having to copy your email address and open a completely different website/app to send an email. People will always use the easiest way to contact you, and at this point it’s comments on your site.

Thanks for your help everyone – I will get a contact form on my site.

  • Happy to help :)

You can find detailed information on how the contact form feature works here:
