My WP dashboard shows “611 Blocked malicious login attempts” – why?

  • Unknown's avatar

After speaking to Host Gator support and Site Lock support this morning, they said that the message originated from WordPress and that you were the only ones who could answer my question.

I am trying to find out who or where these 611 attempts came from. I believe I might know who attempted some of them but I need proof.

Unfortunately I have tried every trick I can find by adding plugins to get traffic to the site and they have all failed.

I am not technically computer savvy but this morning Site Lock support said that hackers might have already got into the site, added some melicious code and that is why either Google is not seeing us or we have been blacklisted.

It is impossible, seeing thousands of people have had issues similar to ours, that there has been so little traffic to the site/blog or through our media channels as well.

    Please respond.

    Thanks,

    Peter Sommer

  • Hi Peter,

There are two different versions of WordPress. These are the support forums for WordPress.com, and you have the self hosted WordPress.org version. You can read about the differences here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Try posting your question in the WordPress.org support forums. They will be able to help you there!

    Good luck!
