my wp.com gaves a virus/spyware prompt?

  • Unknown's avatar

A friend visited my blog from work and was immediately alerted with a virus/ spyware warning off their work virus software, followed up by their IT department.

I use hosted wordpress.com and an off the shelf theme. No css editing or extras and only widgets provided by WP. My only content is posts written on wordpress with images (mainly jpg), images hosted on Flickr, images hosted on my own web site http://www.rachelcreative.com and occasionally videos hosted on youtube.

Is it possible for a hosted wordpress blog to carry a virus or spyware?

And if so how do I know if mine has one and what can I do about it?

Thanks for any insights you can give me.

I checked out the website linked to your username and didn’t get any virus alert.

Usually this happens when the blog admin links to a bad site then the anti virus software not all but some will alert the computer admin that there is bad content it’s not coming from your site for say but from the site the blog admin links too.

Hi thanks so much for checking. My mind is put at ease now.

And thanks for the info about links sometimes triggering an alert. That makes sense (in an over protective anti virus kind of way).

    Thanks again.
