Myriad Problems
Over the past few weeks I have had myriad problems with WordPress—except with my own blog (lindagrashoff.wordpress.com), which mercifully has been behaving just fine. These are the problems I have been having:
1. My original username (lindagrashoff) is no longer recognized. When it began to not be recognized, the password also did not work. Instead of my original username, when I’m asked to login now, I am presented with my gmail address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), for which I have invented a new password. If I remember right, this is when all the other problems began.
2. The Follow button is displayed on davidnikias.com and melindagreenharvey.com even though I already follow these blogs.
3. When I try to leave a comment at davidnikias.com or melindagreenharvey.com, I am not recognized even though I am signed in. When I click on the WordPress icon below the comment area, my gravatar appears, but when I write my comment and hit Post Comment, I get this message: “You are being asked to login because (email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not logged into now. By logging in you’ll post the following comment to <name of post>. <my comment>” If I add my password, I am sent back to the blog page, where my gravatar is now missing. The loop continues. I get the same error message if instead of clicking on the WordPress icon below the comment field, I fill in my e-mail address, which populates the name and website fields. And the loop continues.
4. I can’t subscribe to stu-artphoto.com. When I click on the Follow button, enter my e-mail, and click on Sign me up, I get “Your subscription did not succeed, please try again with a valid email address.” I have tried many times to subscribe to this blog, and to some others.
5. On some sites the Like button responds, i.e., it turns blue and the word changes to Liked, but my icon does not appear nor is it counted. This is true for the site joshidaniel.com as well as for others.
6. When a Like “takes,” my Gravatar is often three or four icons from the left, not the leftmost icon, as it used to be.

Sorry, this litany is a tad out of date. I am back to my original username and have invented a new password for it, which seems to be working.

My problems are solved—or at least have a workaround. I need to fiddle with cookies. Learned this from a chat with WordPress’s Kristin S.
