mySQL basic questions

I’m updating my wordpress site and have always wondered what mySQL is used for. I know this is basic question, but forgive me b/c I don’t see it ever explained through the eyes of someone trying to make money selling a product.
The only time I would have a customer enter data into my website is when they actually order and enter their name, address, etc….although this is entered into paypal actually.
For now, I just toss all my customers data in excel and can do email campaigns or follow up emails/calls if I wanted to.
What are some real life examples of what mySQL can do to help a business market or make more money…ie. how are companies using mySQL after they have the data.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. If you want to hire a web host go to http://wordpress.ORG/hosting and then you can set up a wordpress.ORG install like the one depicted in the tutorial you referred to. Then, if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
