I have transferred from WordPress.com to Bluehost and need to get the old MySql database from my WordPress.com site.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
We do not provide database backups. However, you should be able to export the content following the instructions here:
That should provide all content including posts, pages, comments, and media files. Can you try importing the XML file generated from the Export process?
-
That’s what I did, but it hasn’t worked at all. My site is still completely empty (http://www.scoutsalley.com/)

Hi,
Can you let me know if you received an error of some sort when you tried to run the import on your self-hosted blog? I checked out the export file from your WordPress.com blog, and it looks like the file should be small enough to import in one shot.

I actually do get an error message when I try to open the .xml file.
A window pops up, saying “This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.”
That’s the only kind of error message I’ve gotten though. And, actually, the site is hosted by Bluehost now. I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

Hi!
This just means that currently on your computer you don’t have a program that can read XML files. That shouldn’t be an issue. Have you tried uploading the file into your self-hosted site by navigating to Tools -> Import from your self-hosted dashboard?
-
Yep, I’ve tried it twice. And WordPress has actually sent me emails both times saying the import was successful. I just haven’t seen anything pop up on my site.

It looks like you might be running the import at scoutsalley.wordpress.com. You want to be running the import at scoutsalley.com/wp-admin, which is your self-hosted dashboard. Can you give that a try? That should be a completely separate site than WordPress.com.

Not a problem at all! I’m glad we were able to get this worked out. Please let me know if you need anything else.
