Mysterious Footer Credit showed up; can’t remove

Hello hello! Just wanted to ask about something I noticed regarding my website; I use a handy theme named Canard, and while I plan to switch eventually as part of a big website overhaul, I did notice in the past week or so that my front page seems to abruptly show the “proudly powered by wordpress: theme Canard” as a footer, which it has never done before. At first it even showed a PNG link to an old, outdated logo I no longer use, but I deleted that piece of media from the site and the link did go away.

However no matter what I do, I can’t seem to remove this footer or the powered by wordpress credit from my home page? Customization menu shows nothing. Footer options show no footer. I genuinely have no idea why this showed up all of a sudden and why I can’t remove it despite having it set to hidden in the option and having the pro plan. Is there a new toggle or something done in the background that may have broken something? Clicking on the site name does bring you back to the top of the page which I guess *is* a useful feature, but I’d like to remove the credit to wordpress and the naming of the theme if possible. Just go to the Seafoam Gaming website and you’ll see it on the front page even when logged out.

Just incredibly weird! help would be appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

replying to my own message to note for some stranger reason, clicking on proudly powered by wordpress takes me to a dot org page instead of dot com, which I use and vastly prefer… Is it because i messed with plugins the other day? I don’t know why and how to get rid of it…

    Hi @thedreaminghawk,

I know how this can be weird, since it was deactivated before. It’s possible that a recent theme update may have re-enabled the footer credit option on your site.

You can usually hide it again by heading to Appearance > Customize > Site Identity, and looking for the Footer Credit setting — then set it to “Hide”.

I made a quick video showing the steps here, in case it’s helpful:

Let me know if you don’t see that option or if anything still looks off!
