Mysterious message

Can you please tell me what this means?
#31 44b9b is not a valid color string
It appears only very recently on my stats page instead of a map. Why? And what on earth is it?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did you add any custom CSS (styling) to your site? #3144b9b appears to be an attempt at a hex color code, but there are too many characters there and a space after the first two numbers. Is it possibly supposed to be #3144b9 (a medium blue)? I can’t tell which page of your site this is happening on to know for sure.

Here is an explanation of hex codes

Hi there, is this on the stats page for torahtextmakesenseofit.wordpress.com? I see that this thread has been tagged for Staff attention. Thanks for your patience while they get to this thread.

  • Can you send a screen shot of what you are seeing? Link it here with a third party like CloudUp or snag.gy. That will give us a better idea of where you are seeing this at.

Also, go ahead and sign in to your account from a different browser to see if the issue persists there. Thanks.

I have no idea what cloudup or snaggy are, so cannot send a screenshot.
The exact text has been very carefully copied..
    Justjennifer is correct.
I am seeing this on my stats page instead of a map showing the countries of visitors to the site, where the map is supposed to be.
It is only very recent, since I changed the colour scheme exactly as advocated in your latest `reader’ and may be connected.
It appears the same with a different browser.

P.S. It appears on my other sites as well. I only quoted one, as it is the same problem.
What on earth does it mean?

  • Unknown's avatar

yes. What to do about it is the second question. The first is simply what does it mean?

  • Unknown's avatar

You could make a screenshot and add it to your Media Library. Staff could see that. I’m sure they’d be interested as this isn’t something that happens every day.

The first is simply what does it mean?

I guess for whatever reason (browser issues?) that particular colour isn’t loading correctly on that map part of your dashboard. Have you tried changing the colour to a different one again via your Gravatar top right and “account settings” middle left.

    To magic robot
    1. You have not answered my question. What in plain simple non-technical English does it mean?.
    2. No need for a screenshot, staff (viz. supernova) have found it.

I do not know why on fora one cannot get a simple answer to a simple question but always all sorts of roundabout things.
As I have not put it there, assuming there is no hacker, WP have put it there and if they have then they at least must know what it means. I want them to tell me. That is the starting point.

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN ??????????????????

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN ??????????????????

I don’t know. There’s obviously something wrong with that particular colour displaying correctly on your dashboard. You did say you had changed colours. But it doesn’t mean you’ve been hacked. Perhaps it is supposed to be this colour:

This thread has been tagged for another response from staff.

  • I concur with themagicrobot’s speculation as to what it is.

We can’t see the problem ourselves, so we’ll need to essentially see through your eyes what you’re referring to, only then will we be able to confirm it.

In order to do that, we’ll need a screenshot. For that, you have two options:

    1. Simply visit https://snag.gy/ where you’ll see the instructions right there on that page.

Or, 2. Follow the steps at https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

  • Hi there,

What browser are you using by chance? I believe it may be related to this issue here:

    https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/30148

The above issue should be solved, but if you’re still seeing this same issue, we may need to reopen everything.

    WHAT DOES IT MEAN ??????????????????

The issue has a lot of technical jargon, but basically there is a color palette that is not compatible with Internet Explorer 11. Is that the browser that you are using?

Thank you darne…. for your simple answer at the end. It means the colour does not match the map. (In Chrome there is no map.) The string is the one you supply! I tested and found all your new colours in the `reader’ are no good, and they all give this reply, so I went back to the old Classic Blue and no trouble.
No need for screenshots, browsers, dashboards etc. (WP flatly refuse to put in anything to press to reach a dashboard so although there is a dashboard somewhere I cannot find it, do not use it and do not need it.) I thank you again for your simple answer.
    The problem is now resolved.

P.S. Classic Blue is of course, naturally and obviously as one would expect, orange. Never mind, the orange is nice too.
