N00b can't get widgets to appear — HEXA theme, wp.com

  Hello. Just getting started, blogging on wordpress.com, using the HEXA theme. The theme appears to offer me 3 sidebars, 2 preloaded with some widgets and the 3rd empty. I’ve updated some settings on the preloaded ones but none of the sidebars (nor any of the widgets) appear on the site, though my posts do. Getting the same not-there whether browsing on my PC (Win10, FireFox current) or my iPad (iOS 8, Safari). How do I get the sidebars to be real? Thanks.

  The best place to learn about how your theme works is its Theme Showcase page https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/hexa/

  There is no “always visible” sidebar in Hexa. The widget area is displayed when someone clicks on the gear icon at the top of your homepage.

  If you wish to have an always visible sidebar, you may wish to consider a different theme. You can do that here: https://theme.wordpress.com/ and by clicking the “Find a Theme” button which will open an additional menu. Then you can use the feature filters to locate themes that have 2 or three columns, right or left sidebars.
