Naked Flickr and YouTube links don't work in the new "New Post" editor

When I create a new post using Dashboard -> Posts and then Add New, I get a full featured editor. In that editor, I can paste in links to Flickr images, YouTube videos, and Google maps and they get displayed correctly. I just need to paste the link in a paragraph on its own. This is a very useful feature that is advertised in your help.

You seem to be introducing a new editor. If I choose “New Post” from the menu bar, or from Blog -> New -> New Post, or I choose an “EDIT” link from a blog post directly, I get a different editor that says “beep beep boop” at first then offers me a simplified view. If I paste links into that editor, they stay as the link text when the article is saved.

Worse than that, if I use an “EDIT” link on a blog entry then immediately press “UPDATE” *without any edits* then all of my embedded Flickr, YouTube, and Google Maps links get *removed* and turned into their link text, destroying my article formatting. I have to go to the Dashboard editor to fix them up again.

This would appear to be a regression or bug.

Using the revision viewer I can see that the new editor is stripping newlines and introducing “p” tags around paragraphs in the markup, corrupting the article layout.

  • Our apologies for the frustration. We are working on correcting the bugs. In the meantime, I would encourage you to use the Dashboard editor.

    Thanks.

In case it helps, this might be related to a similar problem when using MarsEdit. If I use MarsEdit to edit an article it has the same effect: wrapping the Flickr, etc. links in “p” tags and preventing them from working.

    Two birds one stone?

  • Hmm, I’m unaware of any connection at the moment between those issues.

No problem. Thought it’d mention it just in case.

  • Never hurts to bring that stuff up.
