NAME ALLOCATED NOT NAME SELECTED

I just wanted “grumpyoldman”. I was advised that I could not have that, but you could provide “grumpy-old-man.me” Now you have allocated “grumpyoldmandotme.worldpress.com”. I don’t want that – it makes no sense. Now how do I go about correcting that? How about just: “grumpy-old-man” or “grumpyoldmanblog”. If you can’t do any of this or come up with a creative solution then please refund me.

Hi there,
When you create a site with a custom domain on WordPress.com, it has two parts: something.wordpress.com, which is free, and then the custom domain (something.com or something.me, for example.)
When you wanted to create grumpy-old-man.me, we still need the *.wordpress.com version, so it automatically created grumpyoldmandotme.wordpress.com. That’s why you’re only seeing “grumpyoldmandotme.wordpress.com” under your account right now.
However, it does appear that an error occurred with the registration of grumpy-old-man.me, the site’s custom domain. In our records the error says that one or more of these fields was missing from your registration information:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Phone Number
Even when you select Private Registration, so that your information will not be listed publicly, this information must still be on file with the domain registrar and is required.
Thus the domain wasn’t registered and you were refunded with WordPress.com credits so you could re-attempt to register the domain.
Since grumpy-old-man.me is still available, please go through the registration process again here:
https://wordpress.com/domains/register/
When you get to the checkout, just make sure to select your account’s credits for payment, so you don’t get double-charged.
Best,
-Alex G.
