Name change
-
I already have a website on squarespace and want to change to wordpress. If I set up a website using a name on wordpress, keeping the SSP site until it is ready can I then change the name over?

Hi there,
Yes, you can first create your site at WordPress.com using the WordPress.com free site domain and transfer or map your custom domain when your site is ready.
You can check out the steps to transfer your custom domain to WordPress.com here: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/
And whenever you feel that your site is ready, you can opt for a WordPress.com paid plan, you can check out the pricing link given here:
https://wordpress.com/pricing/Also, if you want, you can map or transfer your domain name you already own to your new WordPress.com site.
You can read about domain mapping in this support document here:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/You can check out the details about domain transfer in the below link:
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/Hope this helps!
Cheers!

I’m following up on the Modlook tag here. For reference, adarshhalan, this is my response to such questions.
Yes :) This is a very common question. Go ahead and build your new site on WordPress.com. Import your content, customize the theme, get it all ready to launch.
Keeping the new site private will help prevent any SEO confusion since you’re going to have the same content on two different addresses.

There’s 2 ways to connect the domain. Either will work fine.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/Write back with more questions :)
