Name Change Not Working!!!

    I’m trying to change the blog address and it keeps telling me:
    Sorry, that site has already been used!
    Except it ISN’T in use!!! I checked! It’s been closed AND it’s available as a domain (.com)

    Could I possibly buy the (.com) domain from GoDaddy and THEN try to change the address on wordpress????

    PLEASE HELP!

    If the domain is available freely, you need not buy it externally, you can register it here on WordPress.com , here is the information to help you with it Register a Domain

    In order to do that you will have to purchase one of the WordPress Plans

    With any paid plan you get a free domain credit, to register and to Map it.

    Hello @theprancingponyblog
    It might be happening because the owner of the site address has deleted the site and once a site is deleted its .wordpress.com address is reserved and cannot be registered by anyone. This is done to keep blog from being impersonated.

    So if you want to use a free .wordpress.com address i would suggest you to register another one.

    Yes you can do that. In that case you have to use the Domain Mapping upgrade to point your GoDaddy domain to your WordPress.com blog/site.

    NOTE:

    You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain.
