Name Display (Forum Comments)

After posting to a different thread (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/problems-with-followers-not-getting-email?replies=11) I noticed that my username is displayed (and not my display name).
When I comment on blogs — My display name comes up properly (example: http://comingeast.com/2015/02/05/if-the-shoe-fits/#comment-18895)
Is that something WordPress wanted to do to differentiate the forum and blog posting interface? Or is there an initiative that is in progress to make things uniform and forum users would have their display name posted (instead of username)?
I certainly would prefer that!

Yes. Otherwise we had people playing all kinds of games with their display names in the forum, reporting one another. It was a mess.

I am considering changing my username, but there is a caution about how it will change a gravatar and intensedebate addresses. I don’t know what that means. Do other people see those?

Your username is the name you use to login and the name you’ll see in the forums here.
Your display name is what readers see next to your posts and comments.
Sometimes, people will use their display name to show their real name. For example, my username as you’ll see in this forum is jeremeylduvall. My display name is Jeremey DuVall. So, if you see me leave a comment somewhere, it will display as Jeremey DuVall.

I would caution you against changing your username. Instead, I would encourage you to change your display name as explained here:
Once you change your username, you will not be able to use the previous username ever again. If you’re sure you no longer want ellenheyer, you can change the username as described here:
