Name Help
-
Hello. COMPLETE novice here, so please excuse my ignorance. I want to (will immediately) getting a no-cost blog so that I can try it out, see how the blog world works, learn how to explore the entire blog concept, etc. AND I want to (will immediately) register a domain from wordpress (.com, .me, etc) and have a blog with all the bells and whistles. My problem right out of the gate (again, remember I’m a novice) is I can’t seem to find a .worpress.com name that is available. I am unreasonable picky, but I would like something classy for both. Any ideas about how to go about finding a name that’s available..? For these sites I won’t be selling anything or focusing on one main theme… Any ideas? Thanks you..

There is no other means of selecting a blog URL aside from the one you are using and we Volunteers cannot assist you with your selection. You are on your own.

**Correction to my original issue. I meant to say “I am NOT unreasonable picky.” Thanks again.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I appolgize, I thought I was posting to to a general community. Will keep trying.

Hi again,
This is a peer support forum but it’s not a chat site. It’s strictly for technical support. Your question has been answered. We are not allowed to create discussion threads here and chat. The bottom line is that wordpress.com is the top level domain here. All of our free hoisted blogs are on .wordpress.com sub-domains.
If you intend to map from it to your own domain, then it does not matter what any underlying .wordpress.com URL you register is. You invest time and energy into selecting a domain URL and don’t waste any at all when it comes to registering an underlying .wordpress.com sub domain URL.

names are very personal – sit down with a pencil & some paper and play around a bit – my domain name came about when the original owner did not renew it – a couple of others were the result of just playing around with thoughts for a few days – a blog that I gifted to some friends has their sailboat name in it –

I am not attempting to ‘chat’ up a storm here. Again, me being new to all this, I was under the impression the ‘community’ may be able to help out by point me to a list of available ***.wordpress.com addresses or something like that. I have literally resorted to gong through a dictionary for aord/address ideas. I imagine there is more availability when I registar a paid domain. I do not mean to waste anyone’s time. thanks again.

Sorry but there is no list that I am aware of that has available WordPress.COM addresses – sort of a brute force check – plug a name in and see what happens – no real shortcut to glory here

i suppose I shouldn’t have waited until the year 2013 to try and learn about blogs and create one…

Not to worry. Don’t waste any time here select any .wordpress.com URL to domain map from. Then make the domain mapping purchase http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ And, use this tutorial prepared by Staff http://learn.wordpress.com and you will be up and running in no time flat.

If you don’t like the name you start with it is easy to move to a new name – get used to blogging and see if you really like it – not for everyone – remember if you are not having fun with your blog you are doing it wrong – good luck
On a names list – if you only looked at 10 characters in a name – 36 possible characters you would have a list with
3,656,000,000,000,000 names in it – minus the names already in use – still leaves a real big number -
My problem right out of the gate (again, remember I’m a novice) is I can’t seem to find a .worpress.com name that is available.
Odd. I’ve picked 4 or 5 in recent months with no problem. Each one has been accepted on the first try.

Trust me, I’m trying… maybe our interests, personalities and language use are VERY different – which I imagine could/would influence the types of words/combinations we would try. Thanks for the “help” – I think.

@xen01
I’m going to say what follows in what I hope is very kind and respectful manner. This thread has long since become a discussion/chat thread. I think it’s best if we Volunteers move along now and help others, as the original answer I provided was correct, and returning to this thread to chat is preventing us from answering the technical support questions that we are here to answer. -
timethief..I will do the same, in a kind and respectful manner. I originally reached out for help. As I pointed out I am new and it states in the wordpress site links, that is no help is available to ‘post your question here,” which is what I did. Honestly I felt your initial response was rude. However with that I considered the matter closed. In the end I was simply responding to the others who continue to express their opinions and statistics to me. If you read the posts you will see that is exactly what occured. I appreciated everyone’d helpful advice – but tossing statistics at me and/or the fact others have had great success is not helpful. Since you are again trying to insult what I am trying to do – I will gladly send all this to wordpress themselves. Heck of a way to treat a newcomer…and I can point that out to newspress personnel when I pay them the hundreds of dollars – as I feel they do want my business.

timethief..read the other folks’ statements to me. I was responding to that with the ‘statistics’ statements – they are all there to read. You simply suggested more than once that my pea for help was ‘wasting time,” which is what I felt was rude and innapropriate. (other companies that my business has dealings with do offer lists of availability for just such matters). Again, me being a newbie to blogs/wordpress, I was asking for direction on the subject. I would think most businesses would expect their ‘volunteer’ base to be welcoming, and eager to help any and all perspective clients and customers. All I was doing is asking for help and direction. I am actually offended by the way you have treated this. Period.
