name lookup timed out when connecting to wordpress
-
I have tried connecting to wordpress a couple of times over the past few weeks, but I keep getting this error message:
Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: token_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host. name lookup timed out
Blog url: http://www.adaerts.nl -
Can you please try deactivating all other plugins before connecting to see if that makes any difference?
-
Doesn’t make a difference. Would have suprised me since the check is not done on my own wordpress site, but on jetpack.wordpress.com. I also verified my DNS configuration – all OK.
-
The check is done on our end, but it needs to communicate with your end too.
Theme functions can sometimes conflict as well. Would you please temporarily activate the Twenty Eleven theme and try connecting again?
-
Tried again without other plugins and both the twenty-ten theme and the WordPress default theme. The same error message occurs…

Are you running any sort of third-party security scripts on your site? If so, would you be able to disable those to test the connection again?
-
Not that I am aware of. It is a fairly standard Debian/Directadmin setup. There is an IP blacklist and the ssh port number has changed, but that is about it.

I had 1.1.3, but no sign of an update. When I removed and re-installed it I got 1.2.1 .
The error message I got when trying to connect to wordpress.com from JetPack didn’t change, however… -

Are you running Jetpack on a multi-site installation?
If so, please try activating it for each site individually, rather than using network activation.
It would also be helpful if you could run the following command at the prompt, and send the output to us at support@wordpress.com
curl -i -L --data 'test' 'https://jetpack.wordpress.com/jetpack.register/1' -
On the server are several individual WordPress installations. I have tested a few, but activating Jetpack works on none of them. I could try and move a WordPress installation to another (freshly installed) server. In the error ‘name lookup timed out’, what host is being looked up, and with what function call?
I tried the command line on the server as you wrote and sent it to support@wordpress.com

Thanks for sending us the details. Since you probably don’t want to discuss specific server details on the public forums, we’ll be sending the next reply via email.
