Name servers modifications cannot save

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I would like to change the default name servers by a custom name servers.

In “Name Servers” rubric, I have checked the option “Use the custom Name Servers listed below” and entered my two name servers. Then I have click on “Save changes”. A message appears to notify me that it is registered.

After unlogged and logged again in order to check if all is ok, I notice that all my name servers I have just registered have disappeared and the name server option has switched automatically on “Use WordPress.com name servers”.

I have tried the same process several time with the same results. I dunnot know what to do know…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there! May I ask why you’re changing nameservers? Your situation seems similar to westcoastsyndicate’s in this thread. Maybe the solution you’re looking for is the same as the one they came up with there.

    Hi,

The main reason is that my host has changed his server machine for a new one.

  • Unknown's avatar

Just to clarify: did you purchase your domain name as an upgrade with WordPress.com? Or are you trying to move your WordPress.com website into your own host with a WordPress.org installation?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to move my WordPress.com website into my own host with a WordPress.org installation That was the settings I had and all work well until this update with the new name servers.

It seems that you do have a similar situation as the other thread.

The Happiness Engineer in that thread said:

If you are transferring your actual domain registrar to Bluehost, please don’t modify your name servers with us right now. Once you have transferred the domain, you will be able to modify the name servers with your new registrar.

Does this sound like what you’re trying to do?

OK, let’s try to make clear my issue. What I want is to host my worpress.org website on an external server AND to keep the DNS management to WordPress.

So, the only thing I would like to do is to change the DNS server names of my domain name in order to redirect it on an other server which is managing the DNS area and the host.

Could the solution to this issue be to transfer my domain name to an other register ?

  • Unknown's avatar

No, you don’t really need to transfer your domain name to another registrar. You can definitely keep your domain name with WordPress.

I’ve flagged this thread for the Staff’s attention so you can get full assistance from them.

    Good luck!

    Hi Sarah,

I have now news from your Staff about my big issue.

I have continued to seek and when I am calling a whois I have see this line appears:

    Status: clientUpdateProhibited http://www.icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited

then I have look for the explanations and find that:

“This status code tells your domain’s registry to reject requests to update the domain : This domain name status indicates that it is not possible to update the domain, which can help prevent unauthorized updates resulting from fraud. If you do want to update your domain, you must first contact your registrar and request that they remove this status code.”

Does this mean that updates are forbidden to prevent from fraud ? The solution would be that WordPress lifts this restriction during the time I made my DNS server names changements. Could it be that ?

Thanks for your help so solve this issue asap ! I am looking forward your answer.

    @trywan-

Can you tell me the nameservers you want your domain to be pointing to? I can try it on my end.

    Thank you!

    Hi there,

The Name Servers for this domain have been updated. Please note it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to take place.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi gracejiyoung,

Many thanks for your action !

I have checked and it looks like the Nameservers are now redirected to:
    Primary DNS: dns.ovh.net
    Secondary DNS: ns.ovh.net

By the way, why don’t you have set with information I gave you above ? Can you modify it ? I am too afraid to cannot modify these customized name servers.

    Let me know please! Thanks!
