    I have 2 blog accounts- ‘abc’ and ‘xyz’. I want to delete blog and close account for ‘abc’ and use the name ‘abc’ on the second one ‘xyz’. Is this possible? If I go to close the account for ‘abc’, it says the name will not be available for the future. Does this mean I cannot ever use the name ‘abc’ or does this reset after 30 days? Thank you for your help in advance.

    Hi there :)

    Site addresses cannot be moved to a different site. If you wish to add content to a site address that you’ve used previously or already own, you will have to import the content you want to use manually by following these steps:

    1) Export the content from your current site by following the steps in our Export guide
    2) Import the content into your new site with the site address you want to use by following our Import guide
    3) Optionally, add a Site Redirect to automatically redirect visitors to your new address

    If you own a custom domain name, an address that does not contain wordpress.com in the URL, then you may be looking to map or transfer the domain name to your WordPress.com site.

    Hi folks, Let me just add this:

    If by “name ‘abc'” you mean the site address for site ABC, you want to transfer the site to account XYZ rather than export and import its contents.

    If you close account ABC without transferring site ABC, you won’t be able to use the site address ABC. It will be permanently unavailable.

    In short, my suggested steps are:
    1. Export the content of site ABC to your site’s hard drive as a backup. https://wordpress.com/support/export/
    2. Transfer site ABC to account XYZ following this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/
    3. Check to make sure that all media files and their links correctly appear in site ABC’s Media Library under account XYZ.
    4. Once you have confirmed Step 3, you can delete account ABC.

    Since the site address for site ABC will not change, you won’t need a site redirect and any followers you had on site ABC should still be connected.

    All of this assumes that you are referring to 2 sites hosted on WordPress.com and both are using free website addresses. If you have an upgrade on site ABC, it would be a different process, so please let us know if that is the case.
