Name Usage – Username

Hi! I had a question about a username on here. I was fiddling around trying to create a blog last night and I was trying to use the username ‘halcyonranger’ since that is my social username on many of the websites I use. However, I was having a rough time with creating my blog and then I ended up deleting the blog but I had changed that username to something else before I deleted it so that username couldn’t be removed from future use from WordPress. So I just tried to change it to that username while I finally got the hang of creating a blog on here today and it says that ‘halcyonranger’ was deleted…even though I changed that username before deleting my old blog. I just wondered if you can help me? I’d love to use that username for my blog just because it would connect all of my social sites and it’s important to me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m so sorry, but once a username is changed, it cannot be retrieved. Per https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/#change-username:
You will not be able to change your username back. The old name will be reserved and no one will have access to it. URLs for other services such as Gravatar may be affected.
However, usernames halcyonranger0 and halcyonranger1 are available to use!

To add to what @synora10 has posted, I am going to add the modlook tag to this thread, just in case there happens to be something that one of the Happiness Engineers can do on their end, that we as volunteers do not have access to. I can’t guarantee that they will be able to help, but it doesn’t hurt to ask just incase :)

There are two issues here and both are dealt with in the support docs.
https://halcyonranger.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.Deleting a URL is intended to be a permanent act and that is why warnings are given that one has to ignore to delete a site.
Deleted WordPress.COM blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them, and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
