Name used by inactive blog

  If the name I wanted to use is taken by a blog that appears to never have been used and was set up in 2006, is there any way to request to use the name? should I contact the owner or can wordpress verify if it is inactive?

  If you can find contact details for the owner, use them. WordPress.com does not typically pass along such requests.

  Thank you for the advice. I can’t find any details so will leave it and use another name, it just seems a shame its being used by a shell (although I completely understand the time, trouble and possible upset that it would involve to remove empty blogs after x amount of time)

  That’s a good domain name. You could always get any old placeholder name and the Domain Mapping upgrade, so for about $20 a year you could get Stuffandnonsense.org or so on, if it’s available.
