Namerserver & A records changed to new host, my site still does not show?

Hoping someone can shed light on this –
I purchased my domain from wordpress. I then figured I would use Godaddy’s website builder and hosting to do my site.
I changed the Nameservers and A record to point to them. My site still does not show.
Has anyone had a similar issue? What can I do?
I have contacted Godaddy and they seem to think this is a wordpress issue. I have just send an email.

Hello, I have changed both – namerservers first on June 9th and 2 days later A record as advised by Godaddy.

If you are going to use nameservers, then you do not need an A Record. If you are going to use an A-Record, you need to leave the nameservers as the WordPress.com ones.

I know the first option that you are suggesting does NOT work – because on June 9th I changed ONLY the nameservers. A record was not touched. 2 days later, the site that is being hosted elsewhere was not showing.
Now I am trying your 2nd suggestion – where I have changed the namerservers back to wordpress and my A record points to IP address.
I am a little skeptical of this working because when I read about nameservers – as per wordpress, these should be changed if the hosting is done elsewhere – my hosting is does elsewhere so logically it makes sense. But then I am not a technical person, so I may not understand everything.
I appreciate your input rootjosh neverthless. I will post an update on what happens.
