Nameservers need updating
-
I have no idea what that actually means. It was the advice given by the last support person I chatted with. He said I need WordPress.com to update my name servers. Then he gave me the info it needs to be changed to.

You’d need to do this if you bought a domain at WordPress.com and want to use it on a new hosting company. As this account was just created, it may not own a domain. What domain do you need to be edited?

I did buy the domain at wordpress.com
I do want to use it on a new hosting company
I created the account and paid for the domain this past Saturday. I cancelled it. I moved to hostgator and wordpress.org It allowed me to register the same domain aprillangan.com but now I get an error when I try to work on the website.
The support at hostgator told me I need to get wordpress.com to change the nameserver and gave me the new information. So far I have not been able to communicate with anyone at wordpress.com except for your response. Thank you for responding.

Cancelling a domain doesn’t give it up immediately, which is warned at cancellation. As you gave up the domain so soon, it should usually be released to buy again in a couple days. If you also deleted the whole WordPress.com account, that’s why it has been difficult to contact someone. That deleted account would have been the only one to manage this.
You could not buy the domain again at Hostgator, but they thought you still owned it at WordPress.com to bring to their hosting.
WordPress.com cannot change DNS on a deleted domain. You no longer own it. Once that drops from the registrar, you should be able to buy at your new host.
I’ll tag this for staff just to double check that domain and what I said is accurate so you can plan for this or get the domain back if it won’t drop as usual!

Got it. I cancelled everything last Saturday. I keep getting timelines of wait 24 hrs, 48 hrs, and then “some” hours. How long before the domain is release if I cancelled Saturday 7/18/20?
I guess that’s why hostgator told me to contact wordpress.com to update the name server? They thought I still owned it?

Hi there,
That domain is still registered under the WordPress.com account you deleted. We need to restore that account and subsequently restore the domain so that you’ll be able to point it elsewhere.
For that I need you to reply to the account closure email we have sent you when you deleted that account.

I tried yesterday and today to restore my account using the restore account form. When I submit, it tells me I should use the lost password form. When I fill that one out and submit, it tells me the account is closed and I need to use the restore account form. It bounces me back and forth without processing either form.
Thanks for the help!

It’s not a form that you want to use, instead just reply back to the email you got when the account was deleted. Can you find that email? If you already replied to it, hold tight and that team will get it to be able to restore the domain as soon as they can.

Thanks.
My account has been restored. I read the article about changing the name servers. When I go to my domains page, it doesn’t give me that option. Just change site address or pick a custom domain.

Hi there,
Your account has been restored, but the domain under the account has yet to be restored. You purchased and then subsequently canceled the domain subscription and received a refund. Therefore, you’ll need to repurchase the subscription to reinstate it.
Please confirm that you agree to purchase the subscription and I’ll email over a manual payment for you.
Thanks,
