Nameservers not valid issue.
-
Hi,
I’m trying to change the nameservers for the domain http://www.deadendthrills.com, but the nameserver form in the domain control panel complains that my VPS nameservers (ns1.deadendthrills.com, ns2.deadendthrills.com) aren’t valid. As a workaround I’ve had to set the nameservers to ns01.domaincontrol.com and ns02.domaincontrol.com, and then configured the DNS zone file myself, pointing A records, etc, to my VPS IPs.So my question is: how do I get Automattic’s control panel to accept the nameservers as valid? The nameservers themselves are configured correctly at the VPS, and the VPS provider (Knownhost) insists this is a domain registrar issue.
Cheers,

Hi there,
You will have to register your nameservers first. We don’t have any help article on how to do so, however you can follow the first 6 steps in this article in order to log in to your complete domain management interface:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/
And once you are logged in, you can follow these steps to register nameservers using the IPs for your VPS:
- Click the domain name you want to use to register as your own nameserver.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and note the box in the lower left which says “Host Summary.”
- Click Add link.
- Enter the hostname you want to register.
- Enter an IP address you want to add to the host.
- Nameservers need to be set to the same IP address you’ve set up for your domain.
- Click OK.
- Repeat the process to create a second Nameserver (note that you may need to wait a moment for the first Nameserver to be registered in the system).
That’s it! You can now set your domain to these nameservers. Remember that this is a change in DNS, and like all DNS changes, is subject to a 1 to 48 hour propagation period.
