Naming a Blog…

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently started a blog with the intent to raise name recognition in the gaming culture with the hopes of a future career. In this blog I would obviously talk about games and gaming but also my trip to how I got here and where I am going, so therefore would include other things but still with a gaming twist. I named my blog and seem semi content with it. However as I am about to post more information I am starting to question the future “proofness” of it. I would hate to establish a name then have to change it.

I post in multiple forums under a different tag, should that be the name? More so I was looking for a gaming reference to name the blog after, for instance “1Up”, “SoreThumbs”, etc and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Or maybe I am just worry too much and would be better off just getting contact out there. I would love to hear what you veterans have to say…

    Thanks!

Well I sure as hell hope you get rid of the name tirelessgamer.

How about “Set to Game”, “RPGamer” (thats if you like RPGs, I sure the hell, my favorite in the Final Fantasy series), or “Level Up”, “Sore Winner”, “Memory Card” “Level Up” OM on the MO” “AK40Gamer” (GTA series was inspiration for that one) a hot one would be “haptic feedback” only true gamers would know what that is though or maybe just the nerdy wing of the gaming community.

I have some more name possibilities, but I don’t want to be here all day.

I didn’t think “Tireless Gamer” was all THAT bad, especially considering how I came up with the idea. But I guess I am glad I got the feedback.

May I ask why you think it was a bad choice and to ditch it?

Thanks for yours and all others feedback, greatly appreciated.

crap, i mentioned level up twice, to make up for that how about “The Midnight Play” or “Pwned To Play” you would be how surprised at home many people came to my blog while searching “Pwned” apparently it must be a popular term outside of gaming as well, ride the trend wave, ride it well.

I did like “Tireless Gamer” because your being too obvious. “Its like OK. We know you like gaming, duh thats what your blogs about, duh we are not stupid”. Plus to be honest “Tireless Gamer” doesn’t set you a part from the pack because gamers in general are always tired, thats at least until we beat the game. I was able to beat the GTA Vice City a long time ago in only 5 days and thats with the fact that I still had to go to school and eat and all that other crap plus I was slowly falling in love with The Sims so I was basically playing two games at once. What Im trying to say is that we are all tireless gamers you should pick a name that isn’t so obvious. Not like the names I suggested aren’t, Im just trying to give you an idea of other possible names.

I want to make another recommendation “Play to Pwn” :)

    “Play To Pwn” sound cool

I understand what you mean about “Tireless Gamer”, thats exactly what I wanted was something unique but something all would understand or at least catchy. I thought “Tireless” as that is the attitude or trait one must posses to succeed in anything, which includes games. Plus like you mentioned in the literal since that being a gamer and having a family most game play is played at night and to be able to play you must play at night and therefore be tireless. But to succeed in your career path you must also be persistent, or tireless.

Thanks for the feedback though, it makes a lot of sense. Keep them coming…

I don’t know, but I think “Play to Pwn” encapsulates all those attributes you just mentioned, gamer.

On a related note, I thought of another name I liked but it was already taken, but didn’t appear to be updated since mid 2006. Is there a certain lapse period where a name will be canceled so someone can use it, like in my case?

  • Unknown's avatar

No. User names are not recycled here. If there is a contact link on the blog, you may be able to convince the user to transfer it to you but that’s it. Of course, you can use whatever name you want for your blog, just not the same user name.

Hmm, no luck then. It looks like the name was registered but never used. It still has the basic entry when you start a blog. Oh well, thanks

Seriously, use the “Play to Pwn” before that gets snatched up…its a priceless name for a gaming blog. Im curious what was the other blog name you thought of that was taken?

  • Unknown's avatar

I like that one, I really do. Just not sure it will fit either. I was looking for something more generic that gives me the possibility of talking/blogging about other things as well. the one I thought of ws “Press Start” another one I thought of was “Beyond the D-Pad” but think thats too long, I wanted something simple yet effective. Guess I will continue to brainstorm.

    Still can’t figure out a name…

I was actually going to comment the other day in favor of the “Beyond the D-Pad”, but then mid sentence I realized I didn’t like it, but then I just wasn’t sure so I decided not to comment.

But now I think the “Beyond the D-Pad” name is growing on me. It gives that personal touch so people know that you might be blogging about some other things, and referencing the D-pad tells people that your main focus is gaming. Also, if someone really pays attention to the name “Beyond the D-Pad” they would probably think insightful-ly that you have have various interest and go through ups and downs that are worth blogging about and reading about hence the D-pad.

Ya, it has been growing on me. I do in fact like it better than Tireless Gamer as of now, just not sure if the name is too long. I was looking for something catchy that when you hear it or say it it will just stick. Maybe this is it and I am just worrying too much, not sure. I will toss it around for a day or so and if it sticks then I will go with. Its the best I have came up with so far and it does fit what I was going for. Thanks for the help and feedback aw1923, much appreciated.
