Narrow size of Widget area/side bar

  Here’s what I want to do, I want to narrow the width of my widget area so that it takes up less space (Due to the nature of my site, most of that space is wasted). I’ve managed to do something by messing around with

  .site {
  	padding-left: 60px;
  	padding-right: 80px;
  }

  But it doesn’t quite do what I want it to do. Can anyone help me with this matter?
