navigation bar does not appear on site

    Hi!

I’m a newbie, so… be as mean as you want. I can take it.

Anyways, the navigation bar isn’t showing up on my site — that is, the menu that allows you to go to other pages that you’ve created.

I created the menu and followed all of the steps to do that… that’s not the problem.

I changed themes (I’m using “scrawl” presently) to “2015”…. still no nav bar.

I don’t have any plugins to re-install (that would be the next thing to do).

    What else can I do?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your menu is opened by the three-bar icon at the top right.

That opens a search bar, recent comments, recent posts, etc. That’s not what I’m referring to.

Here’s what I’m talking about (I wish I could put in a screenshot): let’s say that I create three new pages, “about”, “contact”, “myWork”. On the top of the page (or somewhere on the page, dependent on the theme) should be links to the page. That’s what I need.

I will admit that it’s probably something very basic.

Yes, you’re correct. You are presently displaying only widgets in the slide-out sidebar. But the Scrawl theme guide says,

    Slide-out Sidebar
When activated, your custom menu or widgets will appear in a slide-out sidebar. Click on the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the upper-right corner to show them.

It’s a little ambiguous, because it says “custom menu or widgets will appear.” On a test website with Scrawl activated, I found that both custom menus and widgets appeared in the sidebar, the menu or menus displaying above the widgets.

On the top of the page (or somewhere on the page, dependent on the theme) should be links to the page. That’s what I need.

Yes, most themes display a default navigation menu, which can be replaced by a custom menu, separately in the header area, not in the sidebar. This theme is unusual in that respect.

If you’ve created a custom menu and it is not appearing in the sidebar, you might have to enable its display at the bottom of the Menu Structure at Menu Settings, by checking the appropriate box at Theme Locations: “Primary Menu,” or “Social Links.”

I can see menus working at https://mmahamid.wordpress.com/ now.

@hayhurstrobert , did you fix this by checking the “Primary Menu” box on the menus page in your dashboard as musicdoc1 suggested?

I realized what the problem is…..

The site is working fine. It’s me that isn’t working. For some reason I thought the menu would go across the top of the page. There’s a row right next to where you put the title right there at the top of the page where the menu really, really wants to live, but it’s hidden away in that drop box.

So I suppose the only way to get a menu to go next to the title at the top of the page would be to…. upgrade my WordPress account so I can edit, learn php, and figure out how to get it up there.

Kind of a bummer. I thought that this theme was perfect!

Thank you, musicdoc1 and designsimply. I appreciate the feedback.
