Navigation in galleries moves to images not included in gallery

    On my site https://www.grin.one/ I have multiple posts with image galleries. As far as I know I use the basic WP functionality for galleries, no plugins. I have set up the galleries with link=”file”.

    When I click on any of the images I get “Next” and “Previous” buttons, but these do not lead to the next and previous images iin the gallery, but rather preceding and following images in alphabetical order from the Media Library.
    I have checked this with different themes, in both posts and pages, and with different browsers, but the behaviour is the same. (Except for the Twenty Twentyfive theme, where I got no navigation buttons at all.)

    I have compared this with my other web site https://www.diorama.one/ where the image galleries behave as intended, but I cannot see what the difference is between the two; I have the same WP version, the same plugin versions, and I have tried with the same theme versions (Twenty Twelve and Twenty Fifteen). I have tried flushing the browser cache which makes no difference. However, I note that on the correctly working site, I have an extra menu when creating galleries, titled “Type”. Where did that come from?
