Navigation menu

I originally had 6 custom links and a site logo in the navigation menu. I have tried to remove 2 of the custom links multiple times (on various different pages).
Each time when I save it and exit the page the navigation menu goes back to the orIginal menu.
    How do I fix this?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi there,

Can you confirm the URL of the site you’re working on? I took a look at http://veterinary295127493.wordpress.com/, but that site doesn’t have any published posts or pages, and doesn’t appear to have a custom menu set.

  • Can you please publish all the pages that you want to use. It would also help if you can share some more details on exactly what you’re trying to change in the menu.

Your site hasn’t been launched yet, so no one but you and members of WordPress.com Support can see your site, which means it’s safe to properly publish content and changes on the site.

I suspect currently the menu isn’t working because none of the pages the menu links to exist on the site yet. You also don’t have a front page set, as your front page is also still a draft. This prevents your site from working properly, making it impossible to see if something is actually broken.

OK I added a front and made the pages public.

Well currently now the header/ navigation menu is visible in the edit version but isn’t visible when I preview the pages. Why is that?

  • Hi there,

    > OK I added a front and made the pages public.

To clarify, is it possible that you set up your current menu before your pages were public? I noticed when I visit your site editor and click on the menu tabs to inspect the link used, I see links like this one, which are invalid:

    https://veterinary295127493.wordpress.com/?page_id=24

Instead of URLs like this, which are valid:

    https://veterinary295127493.wordpress.com/om-oss-2/

One thing I would recommend is checking all the links in your menu, and making sure that they are linking to the correct pages. It seems that the menu is linking to pages that no longer exist, and so the menu may be hidden as a result.

I think I did what you suggested.
But the tabs arent working still.

  • Hi again,

It still seems that there is something that is off about that menu, but I noticed that in the site customizer you created a menu called “Drop down” and I wonder if using that instead will allow the menu to appear correctly.

To do that you will want to edit your homepage in the page editor interface, then click on the menu and in the settings toolbar pick the “Drop Down” navigation.

This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to find and set that.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
