Navigation Menu Appearance Varies
-
On five of 19 pages in my website, navigation menus have more top and bottom padding and narrower sub-menus. I want them to be uniform and match the top one.

I have only one menu, called navigation, in the Block>Navigation>Menu drop-down list. The theme is 2023, the template for the homepage is Index, and the template for all other pages is Blank. I cannot edit CSS on my plan. Deleting the browser cache and using other browsers makes no difference. Making the menu a pattern makes no difference. Adding a page does not make a difference.
Attempting to use WordPress settings and styles to make the navigation menus uniform fails:
- In Block>Navigation>Settings, turning off Allow to wrap to multiple lines does not change the top level menu height nor sub-menu width.
- In Block>Navigation>Settings, choosing Space between items does not change the top level menu height nor sub-menu width.
- In Block>Navigation>Styles, decreasing Line Height has no effect on the top menu height but makes the sub-menus unreadable.
- In Block>Navigation>Styles, increasing Block Spacing does not change the top level menu height nor sub-menu width.
Can I make the menus uniform using only WordPress?

Hey there,
Many thanks for reaching out!
Can you tell us the URL of the pages whereby the menu styling is different please? We’ll take a look and see what we can do!
Also, it looks like all of the pages are currently set to password protected. Just so that you know, it’s possible to set the entire site to private, or coming soon here: https://wordpress.com/settings/general/vmhoa.net
I hope this is useful.

I appreciate your response.
https://vmhoa.net/news/ is on public view now and is the way I want the menu to look. Oddly, it recently fixed itself.
https://vmhoa.net/pets/ is on public view now and is not the way I want the menu to look. I want the short top-level menu with one-line sub-menus left-justified with the top level.
I will appreciate your help.

Hey there,
Many thanks for that additional information, it’s much appreciated!
I’ve done some digging, and that’s definitely unexpected behaviour, and something reported fairly recently.
I’ve gone ahead and deployed a CSS fix to your site specifically, so you shouldn’t be experiencing that between pages.
Many thanks for reaching out and reporting that!

aleone89, I give you a big thank you for fixing my site! I am glad to know someone dealing with user problems for WordPress is competent. Perhaps related to the menu CSS problem is that earlier the menu disappeared, saying it was unavailable or had been deleted, and asked if I wanted to add a new one. After doing that, a notification said I did not have permission to modify it and changes would not be saved. After a few days, the menu returned to the homepage and then another page. I discovered that selecting the original menu in the drop-down list of the menu block settings fixed the other pages.
I wish to thank WordPress for making website design so easy and accessible. I am a big fan. Seeing my website online is a satisfying experience.
