navigation menu issue
-
“Hello,
I am experiencing persistent issues with my WordPress.com site and need assistance.
My Site Details:
- Platform: Free WordPress.com plan.
- Theme: Twenty Twenty-Five (or Twenty Twenty-Three, support gave both names, but it’s a block theme).
My Goal: My primary goal is to add my categories (e.g., ‘أخبار’) to my site’s main navigation menu so visitors can easily browse content by topic.
What I’ve Tried & What’s Happening (Issues Encountered):
- Site Editor (Appearance → Editor) Problems:
- I’ve been instructed to manage my menu via the Site Editor’s Navigation block.
- However, when I open the Site Editor and click the List View icon (three horizontal lines in the top-left), the panel that opens is completely empty – it shows “NO BLOCKS AT ALL.”
- Similarly, when I click on “Templates” in the left sidebar, the list is also empty – it shows “NO TEMPLATES AT ALL… NOTHING.”
- I also cannot click directly on my existing menu in the site preview to select the Navigation block for editing.
- Traditional Menu Editor (Appearance → Menus) Problems:
- As an alternative, I was advised to look for Appearance → Menus in my dashboard. This option is not available in the main dashboard.
- I also tried accessing it via
yourdomain.wordpress.com/wp-admin(the classic dashboard), but “Menus” is still not an option under Appearance there either.
- Troubleshooting Attempted (No Change):
- I have tried clearing my browser cache.
- I have tried using an Incognito/Private window.
- I have tried using a different web browser.
- None of these steps resolved the issue of empty lists in the Site Editor or the inability to access the traditional Menus screen.
Confirmed Information from WordPress.com Support:
- My current free plan does not allow plugin installation (which explains why my Plugins list is empty).
- My current free plan has limited theme customization and no advanced template editing (which means I cannot create a custom multi-column homepage with Query Loops).
- WordPress.com support confirmed that clearing browser cache is safe and doesn’t delete content.
- They provided the instructions I mentioned above, but the core issue of empty lists persists, preventing me from following them.
My Question: Given these persistent issues (empty List View, empty Templates, no access to traditional Menus) on my free WordPress.com block theme, how can I manage my navigation menu and add my categories? Is this a bug, a specific limitation, or is there a way to resolve these display problems in the editor?
Thank you for your help.”

“Hello again, just bumping this thread as I haven’t received a reply yet. Still looking for assistance with this issue.“

Hello,
I’m having trouble managing my navigation menu on my free WordPress.com site, which uses a block theme (Twenty Twenty-Five/Twenty Twenty-Three). My main goal is to add my categories to the site’s menu.
The primary issue is that the Site Editor (Appearance → Editor) isn’t displaying correctly:
- When I open List View, it’s completely empty (shows “NO BLOCKS AT ALL”).
- The “Templates” list is also empty (shows “NO TEMPLATES AT ALL”).
- I cannot click directly on my menu in the preview to select the Navigation block.
As a result, I can’t access the Navigation block to add my categories. Additionally, the traditional Appearance → Menus option is missing from my dashboard (even when accessing
wp-admin).Is this a known bug with free plans/block themes, or is there a specific way to fix these display issues so I can manage my menu?
Thank you for your help.”
