Navigation Mixup

    Is anyone else running into this? I have the default navigation setting in my account settings (not “Advanced Dashboard Pages”) and find that clicking something in the sidebar suddenly throws me into the WP Admin dashboard page.

    Yesterday coming out of a Post I was editing, I found myself at /wp-admin/edit.php and today I was in my site’s General Settings https://wordpress.com/settings/general/mojourner332444279.wordpress.com and clicked on Media in the sidebar and found myself at /wp-admin/options-media.php (this is the full messy URL)

    In case this is relevant, I clear my browser cookies and cache after logging off for the day. FF87 on Win10Pro PC.

    I thought it was a one-off, but since it happened again today, I thought I’d ask.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    @mojourner,

    Hi. Yes, everyone who has enabled “Show advanced dashboard pages” will have encountered at least one experience such as you’ve described. And with that option disabled, the menu items in WP-Admin are linked, for mysterious reasons, to Calypso pages. Believe it or not, that’s the way WordPress.com designed the “Unified Navigation” admin menu to behave. Brilliant idea, eh?

    But I haven’t enabled “Advanced Dashboard Pages.” I’m expecting to see the WordPress.com dashboard, not WP Admin.

    Sorry, I hadn’t read the OP carefully. I would guess that the results you’ve described is due to a caching issue, but it seems that you’ve already considered that.

    Let me call for staff attention. Staff will respond here.

  • Hello there,

    What I’m seeing is quite strange, mainly because I can’t seem to replicate this.

    i.e. going from https://wordpress.com/settings/general/…etc > clicking on media and landing in /wp-admin/options-media.php..

    Can you tell me if this happening in an incognito browser please?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi, I’ll use a private browsing window for a few hours and let you know if I run into any issues. I think I did turn off tracking protection for dashboard.wordpress.com between my last post here and now, but I’ll double check and remove it first.

    Navigation appears to be stable (no unintended mix up) in a FF private browsing window. I’ll check with Brave later.

    So I can’t replicate this in Brave v1.22.71 either. I’ll go ahead and mark this resolved for now.

    Since I don’t normally work in a private browsing window, if there is anything else I should try (only one extension enabled and it’s not an ad blocker), please let me know. Thanks for the help.
