Nedd free Student WebSites or Blogs

Help! I am teaching an introduction to the Internet class.
My community college students need to create a blog, web page, or wiki on the internet as part of their final project. However, when we (both myself and my student both tried this separately), we could not find a way to get a free wordpress site. I don’t want my students to have to pay for anything. I want them to have a blog, wiki, site, where they could actually manipulate the code or experiment with some advanced plugins. Some of them have advanced skills and are just in my course for the easy A. Other students are pretty basic. Most like to experiment.

I did a search for free WordPress, but it just brought me to the .com website which eventually leads you to the page where you have to pay. Is it possible for me to get a free blog website from WordPress?

  • Hi there,

On the fourth step of the site creation process you can select a free site as shown here:

To start the site creation process you can visit this page:

Evidently, some of my students are better observers than I am because they found the page you spoke of – I passed your information on to the rest.

Thanks for your contribution to community college education!

Are you aware that won’t be possible with a free site at WordPress.com. The whole idea of a free WordPress.com site is to make setting up a site far less complicated than when using the WordPress.org installation elsewhere.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
