need a special theme

  I am new to WordPress and am starting to blog at HowTheWorldReallyWorks.net, and am seeking a theme/template that allows me to post a book MS in progress on one side or one page and a current commentary on world affairs on the other, with an introductory note at the top explaining things and inviting postings on both parts, and with the usual additional features (favorite blogs, etc.). I haven’t found a theme/template in WordPress that would do all this. Are there any I haven’t found? Help would be very, very much appreciated. David Edwards

  The only themes that are available to you at wordpress.com in an “as is” mode are depicted in -> dashboard -> presentation -> themes. If you are capable of editing cascading style sheets then you can css customize a theme to meet your needs by purchasing an an upgrade and undertaking this.   If that still doesn’t suit what you intend then you can self host a blog and edit it to suit or hire a web host. In that case you will be working out of http://wordpress.org/hosting If you do go this route then this is then this is the viewer for wordpress.org blogs http://themes.wordpress.net/

  Thanks for your rapid and helpful response. I should have made it clear that I have signed up with AN Hosting to host my blog, so I’m a wordpress.net person. What I was wondering was whether there are any themes/templates among the hundreds available there that would do what I want to do. It’s hard to sort through all of them without some guidance. Thanks again for your response.

  You’re welcome. If you look closely at the far left side of the theme viewer page you can narrow down your specifications and select from themes that meet your criteria. You’ll get support over here http://wordpress.org/support
