Need a widescreen slideshow on dark background

Hello there.
I need to find a theme that lets me have a widescreen slideshow on a dark background.
So far I thought McKinley seemed most promising due to what looks like a full screen slideshow but I haven’t managed to work out how you get that to happen, and besides there’s no way of changing the white background (I guess technically it’s the foreground – I would like a theme where there is no central foreground, just all one, if that makes sense.)
Do any of the wordpress.com themes offer both a big slideshow and a one colour background?
Would be very grateful for any help.

Hi! The McKinley theme slideshows (like the one here) are created in Posts. Add your images as a gallery into the post (default settings) then set the Post Format to Gallery and the theme will create the gallery like the one from the demo.

Thanks, but as I said I want a completely dark background, and definitely not the white central foreground like in the example you provided.
I want it to be a page not a post as I don’t want any writing underneath it.
I’m starting to think that I may not be able to achieve this with wordpress.com themes.

You would be able to make these specific customizations with CSS, however that requires the Premium upgrade. (If you decide to add an upgrade, we can help you with the CSS, if needed.)
On McKinley, the slideshow from the demo goes full width within the post area so there isn’t any white along the sides of it anymore, but yes… that still leaves the white below it and post info. :/ (Again, it can be more fully customized with CSS.)
Alternatively, you could consider another theme that uses one background color across the page (rather than white in the middle) so that your slideshow would blend.
