Need advice about a forum/portal/email system hybrid

Hello,
I am building a system that needs to accommodate different client communication and media upload needs. I am a fan of Ultimate member and Membermouse. But I can also see the benefit of using a stand-alone system irrespective of WordPress. The main goal is for the system to be modular and customizable enough but if there’s a product in the market that offers 80% of the features, I believe it can be a time saver. A perfect hybrid in my mind is a message thread that looks like a forum with the ability to upload files on demand to a thread and being able to view the entire history at all times. The message module of course should look modern and responsive. All in all, I am looking for a client portal with flexible email-like features that looks like a forum with a focus on customer engagement with multiple departments within a company on demand.
It could be the case that a custom solution would be the most appropriate.

The forums you are currently posting are for the WordPress.com hosting platform. Are you looking to host that site here with us or are you planning to use the open-source WordPress.org software and host it at a different provider?
