Need assistance re: create subdomain and upload json file
-
I made a bad decision a few years ago to have my main site hosted in Squarespace. Yeah, I know. Now.
Anyway, I need to upload a json file for an MS Azure service (identity) to my domain that this identity service can read as part of the setup. It appears it isn’t technically feasible within SQS’s crap service (or it will take me FOREVER to get an intelligent answer from their support on how to accomplish). So, I’m looking at creating a subdomain and just having a single page that would basically be displaying the json from the file MS produces so that the Azure service can read it with a redirect on the SQS site to the page. Can I do that with WP? And if so, how would I set that up?
Thanks!

We can’t help as your site isn’t running on the wordpress;com platform. Only Squarespace is able to help you with this matter.

You misunderstood @staartmees. The site/page I create would be on WP.com if I can do this with WP.com. Hence me posting the question here. So, while you may have thought I was an idiot, I’m not. But I appreciate the thought.
So, can anyone confirm for me this CAN be done on WP or it can’t?
Thanks!

Hi @lrogersariaconsultingnet, sorry for the misunderstanding.
So, I’m looking at creating a subdomain and just having a single page that would basically be displaying the json from the file MS produces so that the Azure service can read it with a redirect on the SQS site to the page. Can I do that with WP?
So to clarify, do you just want WordPress to display a generated JSON file for you, and possibly redirect from there? Let me know if I’ve misunderstood that.
I’m no Azure expert, but with WordPress you’ll want to add any custom code through plugins. You can even write your own plugins to do virtually whatever you want. To host that here, you’d just need our Business Plan to run plugins on our managed services—we provide security and maintenance, and outside code complicates that, hence the higher plan requirement.
But to be totally honest, if you’re only hosting a JSON file, WordPress might not be the best solution for your needs, and our Business Plan would probably be overkill.
On the other hand, if you want to integrate SSO Azure logins into a WordPress site, though, there are quite a few options available for that:

Let us know your thoughts!

@supernovia, thanks for your reply. The first paragraph is what I need to do. I need to create a subdomain in which I can create a static directory path to match what MS stipulates (which is where crappy SQS falls down), upload the json file MS generates for this, and then create a redirect in SQS so that the MS validation can run.
Until such time as I can afford to get a new site designed and built in WP, NOT in SQS. Maybe a year or so.
So, I just need to know that I can accomplish that with WP.com
Thanks!

Thanks:

Can you clarify what the directory path would look like? WordPress uploads typically go to your /wp-content/uploads folder, but with the Business Plan you’ll have SFTP access.
upload the json file MS generates for this
You would need a Business Plan to upload a JSON file here:
and then create a redirect in SQS so that the MS validation can run.
And just to clarify this part, will the redirects be created at Squarespace, or to Squarespace from a configuration on our side?
Thanks in advance! Also, you won’t have to re-add Modlook when you respond. Once staff is involved, we’ll see all replies. Cheers!
