Need guidance about premium versus business plan- Yes I am new

  • Unknown's avatar

Evening folks- trying to figure a few things out for deciding about business vs. premium.

Caveat- I am new, and not a coder- but am trying to educate myself as the last couple of folks I have engaged with this idea are not interested in educating- only charging. The daycare is on a tight budget and informed/educated means less wasted time/frustration and more “on target” communication.

I have been asked to build a site for a daycare for the teachers to communicate to the parents. Simple enough… We would like to add affiliate amazon links to hopefully make things easier for the parents to supply the school with needs (and monetize the click through traffic for some revenue reclaim on web expenses)

    My questions are:
1- if the plan is not accepted by the board and I want to scrap the site- can I change the site completely or am I locked into the original site?

2- Does the Premium have wordpress branding?

3- The site will not have a shopping cart or products other than “Amazon Affiliate” links- so is the Business plan worth it for those links?

Apologies to the collective as I am new- tried looking through the widgets and support section and searching several similar tags- nothing really answered my questions.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

I’ll be glad to answer these questions

    1) Can you please clarify, so that I can assist further?

    2) Yes it does have the WordPress.com Branding. You would need the Business Plan to get rid of it. You can learn more about this here.

    3) Well, you can add affiliate linkings if you have any plan, but you have to learn the restrictions and what to do here. If you’re doing that to earn money, with the Business Plan — you can place AdSense or from any Ad Network since it isn’t allowed anywhere else.

Since you’re new to WordPress.com, you can learn more about WordPress here.

You can also learn more from the WordPress.com Blog, here.
And you can learn more about how to navigate WordPress.com with the support documents here.

And it’s okay! I understand. You can also get access to Live Chat Support with the Personal Plan and above, an you can discover the plans that may fit you by going to WordPress.com/pricing.

Should you have more questions – please reply here and I’ll be able to help you out, anyway I can.

      Thanks!
      Alisson

    @Alisson

Thanks for the reply- I already have several .org blogs through WordPress so I am familiar with the free system- moving into the paid realm is a bit daunting-thanks for the links to the learn pages- these are the items I was searching for earlier.

To answer your ? about the #1- so I build the page(s) and show it off to the advisory board- and they say “No”… am I stuck with StPeteNorfolk or can I gut it and build another page around another domain name I already own? (Lets say change it from StPeteNorfolk to YaddaYaddaBlah and rebuild it)

Being a neophyte it is a lot to take in- thanks for your patience.

    Hi there —

Okay, now it looks like you were referring to WordPress.org. This forum if for WordPress.com. You can learn the differences here.

    And

    1) I think you’re referring to Domain Mapping. You can learn more about this, here.

    Thanks!

Apologies for the confusion Alisson! The .org comment was to say I already understand some of the WordPress format and basic tutorials- I wrote “…moving into the paid realm is a bit daunting…” meaning the .com portion of WordPress.

I am not referring to domain mapping. I am asking if I start a domain under a business plan and have to change or alter that site- can I rebrand/name it with another business/site or am I stuck with the original domain name?

Thank you for the earlier links.

  • Hi there,

1- if the plan is not accepted by the board and I want to scrap the site- can I change the site completely or am I locked into the original site?

I am asking if I start a domain under a business plan and have to change or alter that site- can I rebrand/name it with another business/site or am I stuck with the original domain name?

You can change the free *.wordpress.com address of the site at any time, provided the address you want to change to has not been used on WordPress.com before.

If you have a custom domain, you can replace it at any time with a different domain. Just keep in mind that domains are registered for a year at a time, and have a very short refund period, so to replace it outside the refund period would mean you have to pay for the new domain separately. So it might be best to hold off on registering a domain until you’re sure what you want to use.

2- Does the Premium have wordpress branding?

The site will display the WordPress.com logo or attribution in the footer. We have various options for the text that is displayed, and with Premium you can also change the attribution’s appearance with custom CSS, provided it remains visible and readable.

3- The site will not have a shopping cart or products other than “Amazon Affiliate” links- so is the Business plan worth it for those links?

The Business Plan has other features beyond using plugins, but it sounds like you won’t really need our advanced SEO features or Google Analytics either, so Business might be more than you need. In fact, unless you want to use custom CSS or show ads to defray costs, Personal might be enough for your needs – it will remove all advertising from your site, allow you to add your own domain, and give you access to live chat support.

    @alissonhz

I will make an expert reply here,

What exactly do you mean here and who is the “expert” you’re referring to? If you’re not sure about the answer, or it’s an issue you don’t have the necessary access to help with as a volunteer, please tag the thread for staff as explained in our volunteer guide, here:

@stpetenorfolk – In addition to the great information that you’ve received above, the pricing guide at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ gives the best feature-for-feature comparison between the plans (IMO), but there is also this support guide, which is a bit more “wordy”: https://en.support.wordpress.com/plan-features/

@kokkieh, I think @alissonhz meant she was adding a modlook tag to the thread to draw staff attention. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

@justjennifer — Thanks for clarifying. That is exactly what I meant :)

    Thanks!

  • @alissonhz, you did not add the tag, though. I did when I went through unreplied threads looking for staff attention. Please make sure that when you say you’re tagging a thread for staff, that you actually add the tag. I understand mistakes happen sometimes, though.

@kokkieh — thanks. I will, and it was a mistake. Thanks for the heads up!

    Have a great day @kokkieh, @justjennifer, @stpetenorfolk
