Need guidance on migrating website to wordpress.com for content management and SEO etc
-
Hello, i am creating a website or a blog on finance topics. My prime reason for the website is to prepare quality content for students, learners. I may also go for some video courses later but not at this stage. At first stage my target is to get around 50,000 visitors worldwide on monthly basis and try to monetise the website from google adsense and media.net.
I have already purchased domain name, SSL and email services from godaddy.com and published the website using their free website builder. However, the experience of using it was not good and I intent to migrate the website content management, pugins for SEO and other areas for monetization target to wordpress.com. I have low experience in IT skill but can management website through contents management system like WordPress.
Please guide steps to follow. I will be using this account for my one website I internet to transfer and manage here. I am okay with domain, SSL and emails service from godaddy,. need only content management.

Hi,
So, just to clarify, your GoDaddy site was NOT built with WordPress software? But instead was built with their GoDaddy site builder software?

Thanks for confirming.
You’ll want to create a new site here and, if GoDaddy allows you to export your content as an XML file, you’ll be able to import it. Otherwise, you may need to move the content manually. There’s no need to have any experience in coding, building your site on WordPress.com is pretty straight-forward. You may have a look at our support pages to learn a bit more:

Since you mentioned the use of plugins, you will probably want to purchase plan Business:

As for your domain – you’ll want to map it to your site. You can do it when purchasing the plan, it’s included in the price. As for the email, you’ll only need to add some MX records to make sure everything works correctly. Here’s more about that:

Hey, thanks for the advice.
One more thing to add is that the website was newly created with one post only. I do not need any record for that as I intend to choose a new layout, add posts again.
I was told that by the Godaddy team that I need to purchase a WordPress plan, create the website, and then simply map the domain. SSL and email services will be managed by godaddy.
Is this correct?

We’ll actually handle the SSL too: https://wordpress.com/support/https-ssl/#how-do-i-install-an-ssl-certificate-on-my-wordpress-com-site
Once you have a plan and a mapped domain, you can use email through GoDaddy following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/add-email/#setting-up-email-from-another-provider
