need help

  hi everyone. I am very frustrated trying to customize my blog. i have been at it for almost 2 hours now and i’m very agitated and angry almost. Sigh. very very frustrated. the help/support thing describes the instructions as vaguely as possible its like it doesn’t want me to understand. My problems is that i would like to customize my sketch theme to be like it is in the demo. the instructions they said is simple;

  When you first activate Sketch, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format. If you’d like to use the portfolio page template as the front page of your site, as the demo site does, it’s simple to configure:

  Create or edit a page, and assign it to the Portfolio Page Template from the Page Attributes module.
  Go to Settings → Reading and set “Front page displays” to “A static page”.
  Select the page you just assigned the Portfolio Page Template to as “Front page” and set another page as the “Posts page” to display your blog posts.

  i dont understand this?! i cant do it?! on the demo there isn’t a front page.. there are just all the pages there! and it says there is an option for 10 pages, but in the drop down menu in the customize bar there is only one option.

  please help me, i am at the end of my tether. if you go to my site now, all my posts have disappeared from following the instructions above. i set the front page to the ‘about’ page and then the posts page (as there is only one to select from even though it said 10) i choose ‘thoughts’ page (which i created) but it is not showing.

  So what you did, is make the “ABOUT” page the front page of your site. The front page is simply what people see when they go to http://oneeagerurbanite.wordpress.com.

  You also set the “Thoughts” page as your blog page. This means that when someone goes to https://oneeagerurbanite.wordpress.com/thoughts-dreams/, they will see a list of all your blog posts.

  If you want to see your blog posts back on the front page, then go to Settings -> Reading and for “Front page displays”, set it back to “Your latest posts”.

  If you need something else to show on your site’s front page, please explain further what you need exactly.

  hi senff, thanks for your reply. Well in the demo of the theme i have, sketch, shows a selection of tabs which from what i understand act as folders for blog posts relating to those topics. So that is what i would like. I want the front page to feature, like in the demo, different pages, one being thoughts and dreams, another being food, and so forth.. how do i go about doing that? because the customise page only lists ‘front page’ and ‘posts page’- well how do i showcase 5 different ‘subjects’ with only two from the drop down list?

  OK I think I see.

  You already created a portfolio right? From the left main menu -> Portfolio.

  If that’s what you want to show on the main page (where it currently shows the ABOUT page), then go edit your About page and change the template to “Portfolio Page Template”.
