Moving Your Blog and Domain from Squarespace/Google Domains & Blogger to WordPress

Step 1: Get Your Domain Ready

    • Since Squarespace now manages Google Domains, sign in there and find your domain, bluehandbooks.org.
    • Look for an option to “Transfer out” your domain—unlock your domain and get an authorization (EPP) code.
    • Choose and sign up for a WordPress host (like WordPress.com or another provider).
    • During setup, either transfer the domain to your host using the EPP code, or you can just point your domain’s nameservers to your new WordPress hosting account (your new host will give you these details).
    • Domain moves can take a few days, so don’t worry if it doesn’t happen instantly.

Step 2: Bring Over Your Blogger Blog Content

    • Go to your Blogger dashboard for bluehandcollective.blogspot.com and download a backup of your posts (usually as an XML file).
    • In your new WordPress dashboard, head to Tools > Import, pick “Blogger,” and upload the file you downloaded. Follow the prompts to finish the import.
    • Note: Pictures from old Blogger posts might not make it over automatically. If you notice missing images, try the “Auto Upload Images” plugin in WordPress—it’ll scan your posts and try to fetch images for you.
    • If you want your old Blogger visitors to find your new site, use the “Blogger to WordPress Redirection” plugin to send them to the right place.

Step 3: Move Bad Banana Books Too

    • If Bad Banana Books is already a website, export your content using whatever export/backup tools are available with your current service.
    • Then import or copy that content into your new WordPress site. If you need to move a domain, follow the same steps as you did with bluehandbooks.org.
    • If both blogs will merge, simply combine the imported posts and organize them with categories or tags in WordPress.

    Final Touches

    • Pick a WordPress theme you like and customize your new site.
    • Double-check that your domain and site address look correct in WordPress (Settings > General).
    • Install some helpful plugins for things like backups and SEO.
    • Once everything looks good, share your new WordPress address with your followers!

I will do this process once I get wordpress.com as a host. Thank you so much!

Ok, I have a new problem. I did transfer (I think) the two domains from square space, inserted the code, and got nowhere. And I did put in my credit card and but they claim it didn’t go through. All kinds of tech issues here, that I do not understand or know how to fix.

I am stuck, the domain page won’t load on the wordpress.com site – I tried now a few days. Nothing.

You already own the domain, so the first step is to connect it to WordPress.com. You can either transfer the domain from Squarespace to WordPress.com, or just keep it registered at Squarespace and point it to your new WordPress.com site.

Since you mentioned you have a Blogspot blog, you can also import all your posts and content into WordPress.com — there’s a built-in import tool in the dashboard that makes the move easier. Once your content is imported and your domain is connected, your site will be live at bluehandbooks.org on WordPress.com.

If you’re unsure which option works best, the easiest path is usually to start a WordPress.com site, import your Blogspot content, and then map your existing domain to it.

Yes, I own the domains. I requested the transfer codes for both from square space and put them into wordpress.com. I thought I did that, too. But the page won’t load – it says it is building the site but nothing happens – and it looks like the domains are still on squarespace (I just checked).

I know I need help and more patience. I have a free wordpress blog. I just wanted to move the bookstores to WP.
