Need help adding a "pin it" hover button for images on my site

  • Unknown's avatar

I know there is a plug in for this, but I don’t even have plug in as an option on my sidebar. Why is that? Is there a different way to add a ‘pin it’ hover button to the images on my site? if I can’t do this on a .com site, is there a way to transfer everything on my blog to a .org site? If I can, what will change? (Also what is the process for doing that?) I need a thorough answer please! Thank you.

    Hiya Jen,

    Good question!

Hope you don’t mind, but I’m breaking down your questions into sections to make the responses clearer:

I know there is a plug in for this, but I don’t even have plug in as an option on my sidebar. Why is that?

Sadly it is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Is there a different way to add a ‘pin it’ hover button to the images on my site?

Pinterest is already enabled as one of the ‘Share’ options on your posts under your Dashboard, at the URL:

    https://jenberke.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=sharing

This doesn’t let you choose which image to pin when there are more than one in a post though, and so isn’t exactly what you are looking for. To have the Pinterest ‘hover’ feature as you’ve described, you would need to use a third party plugin on a self hosted instance of WordPress.

if I can’t do this on a .com site, is there a way to transfer everything on my blog to a .org site? If I can, what will change? (Also what is the process for doing that?)

There are some detailed support documents that I’ve looked out and linked below that will explain the process for moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted blog.

This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com blog to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
