Need help changing blog to Primary so my domain opens this blog, not the wrong one (that was the old

  • Unknown's avatar

I just successfully mapped my existing domain to WordPress with the proper name servers. My domain, steverugg.com directs to the (wrong) blog that was set as the primary blog. I changed the preferred blog to “primary” but when typing in steverugg.com, I still get the wrong blog (the “old” primary blog) displaying.

Question: Is there a time delay for WordPress to acknowledge my change of Primary Blog in my dashboard settings or do I need to do something else?

    Please advise,

    Thanks,
    Steve Rugg

    Hi Steve,

WordPress.com doesn’t have a time delay, but there can be issues with caching on your browser if you pulled up steverugg.com when it pointed at the incorrect site previously. The best way to ensure it’s pulling up the right information is to clear your browser’s cache and look again:

You can also try looking using a browser (or computer) which you hadn’t yet viewed steverugg.com. That should at least verify that it’s pulling up the right site for you.

I can tell you that when I go to steverugg.com, it pulls up steveruggdotcom.wordpress.com. The first post says “Welcome to North Idaho!”

Let me know if that’s the right site!

Thank you for your prompt response–I believe I was not clear in describing my problem but in any event I spent some time in my dashboard and found the answer.

    Here it is:
After mapping my domain to WordPress, it published the wrong blog that was set as my primary. I replaced that blog with my new one as my primary. The domain was still “seeing” the old one.

So, in my Dashboard, I went to “My Upgrades”, clicked the hot link “Transfer to Another Site” and the drop-down showed all my blogs.
I selected my new blog, hit “save” and tried steverugg.com again and it worked!

    Thanks again,
    Steve

Ah, I was afraid that might be the case. That the domain was associated with the wrong site.

In any case, I’m glad you got it sorted out! Let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you.
