need help custom menus

  hi,

  i am just working on a site, whre i wann embed a custum menu specified by the content of a custom field.

  code looks like <?php wp_nav_menu( array(‘menu’ => ‘$menu’ )); ?>

  i often checked the spelling and it does work on localhost, but not on my real webpage? has anyone a clue why?
