Need help getting back

  • Unknown's avatar

So it was recommended by a friend that I switch from Wix to WordPress, so I did. I understand that she loves it but I do not, I absolutely hate it so tried to start the process to go back to WIX but apparently can’t. Now my domain, bodybydavis.com was purchased quite a few years ago from GoDaddy.

I cancelled all my subscriptions on WordPress but can’t figure out how to get everything back to Wix. To top it off, even though I also purchased my (email visible only to moderators and staff) email access through GoDaddy, and am still paying monthly for it, I also tried to use the WordPress email option. Now I can’t access my email at all and am not getting any messages.

I will admit I am not very technical (hence why I am going back to Wix). Can someone please give me some direction.

  • Hey @bodybydavisllc, it sounds like you’ve got a handful of things going on. We’ll help you get this sorted.

First, let’s get you pointed back to your previous name servers:
    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/change-name-servers/

The changes there will take just a few hours to take full effect, then your old site and email will start working again so long as they’re still current with the previous providers.

Next, let’s sort out the purchases. I can see you cancelled the plan and email. You also transferred the domain registration to us.

With the way domain registrations work, you’ll need to wait 60 days before transferring again, and cancelling it would seriously complicate things, so please avoid doing that. But if you’ll sit tight, the domain will be pointing to your old site in the meantime. The transfer also added an extra year to the registration: it was going to expire next month. It was renewed for another year during the transfer, so whatever you decide to do with the domain after 60 days, you’ll have that going for you.

Finally, let’s chat about the free site that’s left over. It does look like you had a bit of a rough time! You have a couple of options:

    – You could delete it after you transfer the domain away.

    – Or, you’d be welcome to hang onto it in case you want to try again later. WordPress can have a bit of a learning curve, but once you’re past that it’s got flexibility you really won’t find elsewhere, plus an incredible WordPress community. And we’ve got lot of resources to help you get the site set up to your liking. If you’re up for that, let us know your goals and we’ll help you find some options.

    Hoping this helps!

  • Also, just letting you know in the time it took me to write this, I can see your domain is pointed back at the old site. Your internet might take a few hours to catch up, but the old site and email should start working at that point.

Then, if you want to work on the new site here, we’ll be here :)
