Need help: How do I add a widget?

    I’m using the “Twenty Twelve” theme. Many people follow my blog ; but others don’t see any sign-up button. It is supposed to have Widgets that I can add, including a “Follow this Blog” widget, BUT when I try to add this, it says “Your theme has 2 other widget areas, but this particular page doesn’t display them.”

    Which is weird… because a bunch of people figured out a way to follow it!
    How do I change my blog/website, so that I can have an area for widgets?

    Hi @kaiserscience,

    If you own the website, you won’t be able to follow button. However, if you visit a random WordPress.com website that’s not owned by you, you should be able to see a “Follow” button at the bottom right.

    However, if you access the customizer of your website, https://wordpress.com/customize/<your_website_url_here.com&gt;, you should be able to see “Widgets” on your left sidebar.

    Click “Widgets”
    Click “Sidebar” or “Footer” (wherever you want it to be)
    Click “Add a widget”
    Look for a “Follow Button” and click it.

    The widget should now appear on your site.

    The site https://kaiserscience.wordpress.com/ has multiple widgets displayed in two different widget areas, the left and right sidebar widget areas. So it’s not clear why you would receive that message, or be having trouble adding a Follow Blog widget. Are you perhaps referring to a different site? Or have you switched to a different theme recently? The Academica theme, that is presently applied to the aforementioned site, has nine available widget areas, which are listed and described in the Widgets section of the Academica theme guide.

    The description provide for each of the nine available widget areas listed in the Widget Areas section of the Academic theme guide specifies where widgets placed in that particular widget area will be displayed.
