need help launching site

  I do not understand the payment options. I see that there is a 1 year free, but it is asking for a $48 payment. Please explain what I am paying for if it is free.
  Also, I will be using my own domain with Go Daddy.

  When you buy a plan, you get one domain registration or domain transfer for free as part of the plan. From the second year, the domain costs extra on top of the plan.

  Using your own domain with a WordPress.com site requires a paid plan, regardless if you use the free domain we provide to register one directly with us, or if you use a domain you already have registered somewhere else.

  To use your domain you have with GoDaddy, you’ll use the domain mapping upgrade included in the plan. Mapping a domain does not use the free domain credit in the plan, and you can map as many domains as you want at no additional cost.
