Need help modifying header of Twenty Ten theme

  Hello, if anyone can help with the following, I would much appreciate it!

  1. remove blank space & skinny black bar at top of page
  2. customize the color of the menu bar (I think that is what the wide bar under my logo is called)

  I have managed to get rid of the line in question and some of the white space above my logo by adding this to my CSS:
  #header {
  padding:0;
  }

  #branding img {
  border-top:0 solid #000;
  border-bottom:0 solid #000;
  display:block;
  float:left;
  }

  I would still like to get rid of more of the white space…any suggestions?

  First off go to settings > reading and decrease the number of posts to show on your post pages to about 3. 5 at the maximum. Your site takes entirely too long to load and the search engines consider page loading times when determining search engine ranking and your site is at risk for getting a big drop in ranking.

  Do this to get rid of more of the white space. After adding the below, go back to settings > general and add in a site title and description for the search engines. The below will keep them from showing on your site, but it is really important to have a title and a description that the search engines can read. They cannot read text within an image.

  #site-title, #site-description {
  display: none;
  }

  For the menu bar color, add this and edit the color code.

  #access {
  background: #000000;
  }
