hey, im new to WP, but i purchased my domain name http://www.whereskrisjohn.com through Godaddy, in order to use my domain name http://www.whereskrisjohn.com Godaddy told me WP had to somehow move my blog to there Host..

if any blogger can help with this issue, greatly appreciate it

You can either host your blog there, by installing the wordpress software, or you can continue to host your blog here and do domain mapping. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/

If you don’t want the headache of installing and maintaining your own software, use domain mapping.

    My advice: don’t.

I have had a great experience with GoDaddy domain management but their hosting is unreliable. Some WordPress script (I think the cron.php or something) overloaded their server and rather than warning me, they just shut the web site down.

GoDaddy’s support following this was absolutely appalling. They kept making promises (in writing!), which they couldn’t keep and it resulted in me losing a lot of business and credibility with the users/readers of my blog.

Perhaps it’s different if you pay premium for dedicated hosting, but on a shared server I would NOT recommend running you WordPress blog.

Ok. thanks i’ll stay with Godaddy.. but now I have the first blog i created on WP and my new blog on Godaddy WP application…WP says if I delete this one i cannot use my name..I’m confused on that one

Also how do I get rid of the /wordpress at the end of my Domain name? any suggestions for that one??

You cannot re-use the WordPress name or URL ever, nor can anyone else, if you delete it. That has NOTHING to do with the domain you bought from Godaddy; it’s totally separate and doesn’t affect it at all.

If you want to stay with WordPress.com hosting, but get rid of the “.wordpress.com” on your name, all you need to do is buy the domain mapping upgrade and point your http://www.whereskrisjohn.com to that site. Although that might not work: wordpress.com doesn’t recognize the www part. You might have to use http://whereskrisjohn.com instead.

    it’s in the FAQ:

How do I take ‘wordpress’ out of my url?
